Description

“What’s the most you’ve ever lost on a coin toss?”

In a world of highly stylized, overblown fight scenes like Neo vs. Agent Smith in the Matrix, featuring slow-motion, bullet-dodging insanity, the movie villain, Anton Chighur, stands alone. But isn’t that’s just how he’d like it, if he was capable of liking anything. The Spec Ops Gear Garbage Rod 12 has zero frills and zero showing off, just cold, emotionless efficiency.

That’s also part of why we named this suppressor the Garbage Rod 12. We’re also not worried about perfectly beautiful finish passes. At Spec Ops Gear, we are definitely delivering a product that is highly effective, but it’s also time to separate ourselves from the “dude bro tactical” world of overpriced gimmicks that nobody wants anymore.

Following this line of reasoning, we made the Garbage Rod 12 to outperform shotgun suppressors costing hundreds of dollars more. Like Chighur, we went for emotionless efficiency, not fancy coatings. Our suppressor’s modular baffle stacks, minimalist design, and raw aluminum finish delivers both high performance and the look and feel that movie fans will appreciate. Just how quiet is it? We don’t know, because we didn’t spend thousands of dollars on a sound research lab. But, when you take it out in the woods and compare it back to back against the industry leaders to see who is quieter: just like Chighur, we’re the ones who walk away victorious while the competition ends up lying in the dust.

With no disrespect to Chighur, it was the iconic short-barreled Remington 11-87 fitted with a home-brew suppressor that became the real star of the movie. Audiences were enthralled by the shotgun, and for the many years that followed, gun store counter employees kept getting asked, “How do I get one of those?” For years, the gun forum “experts” and your local Fudds said that shotgun suppressors were impossible and that it would never work, not realizing that a few niche shotgun silencers had been successfully produced for military special forces and police SWAT teams decades before the movie came out and that shotgun suppressors were not just possible, but also very awesome.

If you’ve ever said, “This is my boomstick! …shop smart, shop S-Mart.” but also wanted less boom, then you need a Garbage Rod 12, now. BTW, when we sell 1,000 units of the Garbage Rod 12, we’ll make a double barrel Army of Darkness version.

What business is it of yours, where I’m from? Friendo. (But, if you must know, we make this suppressor in-house at our Northern Idaho Machine Shop.)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this LARP or a movie Gimmick?
The Chighur references are LARP, but this suppressors’ sound performance is dead serious. It’s quieter than any other commercially available shotgun suppressor on the market. If it ain’t, send us the video to prove it and we’ll issue an RMA and buy it back.
Q: What’s it made of?
A: Mostly billet aluminum.
Q: What’s it weigh?
A: About 25oz.
Q: Why’d you name it Garbage Rod 12???
A: Because we’re sick of dude-bro-tactical stuff that takes itself too seriously. This thing is tough and effective at stopping sound.
Q: How do I mount this on my gun?
Super easy to mount, our thread pattern pattern perfectly matches YHM’s Victra-12. So, just buy the YHM Victra-12 Choke Adapter that’s right for your shotgun.
Q: I wanna direct thread, how can that happen?
A: Your barrel would need external 7/8″x24tpi threads and a barrel nut. There’s a few rare Benelli M4 Breachers that have an externally threaded breacher muzzle brake that fit if you remove the insanely locktited on muzzle device. We cannot guarantee what Benellis fit though.
Q: Does it sound like the movie?
A: No, it doesn’t sound like the movie. But it is surprisingly quiet. With subsonic ammo, it’s kind of like pounding a nail.
Q: What’s the best subsonic ammo?
A: For fun subsonic range time (with or without Corey & Erica), we like Top Gun – Subsonic, 12 Gauge, 7.5 Shot, 2-3/4 in, 1 1/8 oz, 900 fps. But, feel free to run whatever 2&3/4″ or 3″ magnum mainstream, commercially produced 12g shotgun ammo you want in it.
Q: Are there Ammo Limitations?
A: We’ve thoroughly tested most mainstream 2& 3/4th inch and 3″ magnum shotgun shells and they are safe. But, we haven’t tested 3.5″ super mags, but who knows, they’ll probably be fine. IDK send it?
Q: What’s the back-pressure and cycling like in semi autos?
A: Our Benelli M4 SBS and the Beretta 1301 cycle fine with this setup running any ammo. On the highest powered magnums it’s a bit overgassed, but still runs.
Q: What’s the Warranty?
A: We offer a 5 year warranty from date of transfer to customer repair warranty that covers baffle wear, design flaws, and one baffle blow-out warranty from you firing over-pressure rounds though it. If you do a burn-down test and completely destroy the suppressor, we’ll replace destroyed baffles and front end cap so long as you send us a high quality (1080P) of it and we have permission to use it for any and all commercial purposes.
Q: What are the limits on the warranty?
A: Don’t cross it! Seriously, protect the threaded attachment base because it’s your serialized part. If you accidentally ruin it, please contact us and we can repair it or work something out if you send in your can.
Q: Is this full-auto/Forced-Reset-Trigger rated?
A: Yes, we have a mag fed shotgun that may or may not have a lightning link and/or super safety in it and we’ll post some footage when we get a minute.
