The Opsin is a helmet mounted digital night vision unit. Some recent reviews out there over-hype the Opsin and use IR floodlights or dusk/pre-dawn conditions to make the Opsin look unrealistically good. To be fair, the Opsin definitely raises the bar on digital performance… a lot. This item was purchased anonymously from Optics Planet by a fellow patriot and night vision enthusiast. To the friend who trusted me with the device for an extended review, thank you. Should you get an Opsin? That depends !- cutaway to depends –> Maybe you want to merc pumpkins on New Year, maybe you wanna impress your totally-based internet friends that you can really trust, maybe you’re preparing to be deadly in the mountains […]

Digital Vs Analog Night Vision
Digital versus analog night vision. A fancy optic won’t win a match for you, buying running shoes won’t fix your cardio. But, NVGs will make you see when it’s pitch black to everyone else. For anyone interested in anything tactical, ever, NVG is undeniably cool. I think we all know why. But unless you’re in the Taliban, you better bring money, lots of money. Even people with a SCAR-h budget balk at the cost of playing the low-light game. A decent military style PVS-14 monocular (one eye only) costs $2,500-$5,000 at the time of filming. Dual tubes are $5,000-$10,000. Yes, you can go a bit cheaper if you make sacrifices. But still: BRING MONEY! So, anything that will scratch the […]
SCAR-H
It may not be cool to admit it, I first saw this rifle playing Modern Warfare with my internet friends. Unlike the vaporware 6.8 spc ACR, the SCAR-H actually became a legitimate platform. Yes, I’m aware of the lame 5.56 ACR, but that one was stupid. In any case, I was totally sold after I saw the Heavy crush on FPS Russia. Ah FPS Russia, that guy from the Halcyon Days when the internet was definitely not a safe space. Some people complain about the tactical Ugg Boot, but I actually like it and after many years of use I can tell you that this platform absolutely rocks. We have some fun merch on the way, so check out the […]
Become Resilient
Preparedness means Resilience We need to increase our resilience. And, if they can’t stop you from “airsofting” in minecraft, then I wouldn’t be surprised if they offer food in exchange for people turning in their equipment. I’m sure nobody here wants to be in that line. So let’s get started. Some of the things below require money, others don’t, so let’s all do what we can. If you don’t have money, you’ll need to leverage community, learning skills and being an asset in any way you can. These are just a few of the ideas I came up with to help us become more resilient. Get Healthy NOW When thinking about food preps, (nerf darts and airsoft), water storage, getting […]
My Next Gun… Won’t Be a Gun
My Next Gun, Won’t Be A Gun It’s summer 2022 and the SCOTUS just defended American’s right to bear arms in a groundbreaking decision. But, as big as these developments may be, we might all soon have bigger fish to fry. Sure, old people in black robes telling the State that we the people have rights is a big deal, but in a future of nightly riots, absent police, the bank is repossessing your house, there’s no jobs and food costs have quadrupled, guns will be necessary but not sufficient to get you through safely. In plain English, this means that in a severe economic collapse guns will be very relevant, but so will food production, medical supplies and transportation […]
M92 PAP AK47, Modernized
I’m a big fan of the AK platform and the M92 PAP Pistol AK from Zastava. I just wish there were some way to mount low light accessories like flashlights, IR lasers and IR illuminators to it. Maybe it’s time to modernize my m92 with a rail system, a suppressor and an adjustable gas system. Welcome to Spec Ops Gear, Special Weapons for Civilians. I’ve put over 10 thousand rounds through this Zastava m92 short-barreled AK47. I’ll have a link to my long-term review at the end of the video. Over the years, I’ve grown to love this rifle. Other than muzzle device, optic and a stock, I’ve left the rifle alone and just enjoyed shooting it. While I still […]
ATN PS31 Review
ATN PS31 NVG Review Basic Features: Adjustable Eye Spacing 50* Field of View (normal NVG only have 40*) Adjustable Focus & Diopter Cost 40%-70% less than PVS31 BNVD, depending on which tubes are selected Automatic Gain Control Built-in IR illuminator One or both tubes can be rotated up & out of the wearer’s line of sight Each tube automatically shuts off independently when rotated up The ATN PS31 is a polymer BNVD housing made by ATN Corp that has adjustable eye spacing. While similar looking to the much more expensive PVS31, ATN’s entry into the dual tube market has some notable differences. The PS31 comes with a built-in IR illuminator, adjustable diopter and also has an automatic gain, unlike the […]
Image Intensifier Tubes
At the risk of oversimplification, there are a few “easy” factors by which to consider intensifier tubes at a glance: How To Simply Judge Intensifier Tubes Generation: Gen 0:Gen 0 is very old tech that dates back to 1929, and saw service in the 2nd World War. Gen 0 requires A LOT of IR illumination and has very low resolution and image quality. It required huge IR spotlights and batteries weighing 30 lbs to function. IR illumination means anyone else with night vision can easily see you. At this point, digital night vision is better than GEN 0. Gen 1:Gen 1 was developed in the 1960’s and was employed in the Vietnam War. Scopes like the Starlight Scope. Gen 1 […]
best night vision goggles for the money
TLDR: My quest to find the best night vision goggles for the money led me to the ATN PS-31 series. Digital technology shows promise, but it still relies heavily on active infrared illuminators. With military grade L3 GPNVG “quad NODS” at $40,000 on one end and digital low light cameras for less than $1,000 on the other, the ATN PS31 strikes a balance in terms of performance vs cost. Like most people about to spend a significant amount of money on a product, I spent a lot of time on research before making my final decision. For the uninitiated, night vision may seem fairly simple. Put on tubes, look cool and see in the dark. However, the deeper you dive […]
AR15 Buffer Weights
AR15 Buffer Weights: Tungsten vs Steel Standard-weight carbine buffers have 3 steel weights inside them. This mass helps counteract the rearward motion of the bolt carrier group as the firearm cycles. However, there are situations where some or all of those steel weights are swapped out in favor of heavier tungsten weights. Switching to a heavier buffer is the easiest way to solve an “overgassed AR15”. These heavier buffers are named H1, H2 and H3 to denote how many tungsten weights they have. AR15 Ejection Pattern The pattern in which spent cartridges eject from the firearm can tell you a lot about what’s going on inside the gun. The velocity at which the bolt carrier group (BCG) cycles back to […]
